Our musical theatre classes for 11 - 13 year olds will introduce students to, and develop the techniques, styles and repertoire of musical theatre including singing, dance, acting and how to practically apply them to musical theatre performance projects.
Musical theatre students will attend for one 3 hour class each week which will typically be divided into three 1 hour sessions of Singing, Dancing and Acting. Students will also have the opportunity to work in masterclasses and performance workshops when appropriate.
Singing: Our singing and vocal coaches are all certified master teachers in Estill Voice Training and have significant experience working with changing and adolescent voices. We utilise the Estill model in all areas of our voice training. Classes are typically taught in a group, as a means of developing the voice, introducing the students to styles of singing as well as the physicality of the voice.
Dance: The dance section of the course will focus primarily on the style of Jazz Dance, with reference to Ballet and Tap where appropriate.
Acting: This section of the class will introduce our young performers to the basic techniques and methods used in acting for Musical Theatre. To achieve this our tutors will introduce the students to basic performance concepts by working through improvisation, characterisation, and musical theatre text.
Uniform: Students who successfully complete the trial/assesment period in Musical Theatre will be expected to purchase appropriate dance wear. More information is available from the Dance Tutor in your class.
Please Note: Although this level of class will introduce students to, and develop the key areas of musical theatre, further individual classes or 1-1 coaching in singing, dance and/or acting may be required if the students wish to further themselves as young performers. |
